In recent times, White Light, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of lighting equipment to the entertainment industry, has found itself becoming involved with a number of architectural lighting projects. In order to better support this market, the company have now formed a new division - Enliten, which will specialise in architectural and display lighting products.

Increasingly, lighting designers for architectural or retail projects are trying to recreate lighting or projection effects seen in stage productions. However, the products used to create those effects in a theatre are often not suitable for use in architectural applications, where much greater consideration has to be given to low maintenance requirements and long lamp life. Enliten’s aim is to tackle this problem by sourcing appropriate equipment for designers and architects or, if nothing suitable is available, working to create new products.

This approach has already proved successful in projects such as the new lighting scheme for the foyers at the Royal National Theatre, for which Enliten created an HQI adapter kit for the ETC Source Four lantern. This allows the lantern to take a 150W HQI lamp with a 9000 hour lamp life. The HQI Source Four won a Commendation at the 1997 LDI Show in Las Vegas, and a TCI Product of the Year award from Theatre Crafts magazine.

Enliten is run by Paul Simson, a familiar and trusted figure in the lighting industry after spending seven years at White Light, latterly as sales manager. He and the company are already working on projects for British Airways at Heathrow and Manchester Airports, the British Telecom Head Office, News International and Burtons in Oxford Street.

Enliten are currently compiling product specification sheets for all of the products in the range; these will be available shortly. In the meantime, they welcome enquiries from anyone involved in lighting design for architectural, exhibition or retail projects.

Enliten can be contacted on 07000 365483, fax 07000 710610 or email info@enliten.co.uk.
