Enliten Sponsors Architectural Lighting Seminars at PLASA ’98

Enliten, the specialists in theatrical lighting and effects for the architectural and retail environment, and the Association of Lighting Designers present two seminars on architectural lighting

The PLASA Light & Sound Show has historically been a theatre- and disco- oriented event, but theatrical style architectural lighting is becoming an increasingly important facet of the show. To reflect this, Enliten and the Association of Lighting Designers (ALD) will present two seminars aimed both at architectural lighting designers/consultants and those from other fields of lighting who are curious about this area of work.

Seminar 1: Taking theatrical lighting and effects into the Architectural world

Tuesday 8th September, 3.30-5.30pm, Earl’s Court 1

This will be a panel discussion on the une of theatrical style lighting and effects in the architectural and retail environment. Designers from different backgrounds will discuss the advantages and shortfalls of using this type of lighting, the tricks used to create theatrical effects with standard architectural luminaires and some of the new luminaires and effects that are now available.

The panel will be chaired by Rick Fisher (ALD), and include Mark Major of Speirs & Major, Peter Ed of Electronic Theatre Controls and Steve Terry of Production Arts USA.

Seminar 2: Remote Source Lighting: The Future or Just A Pipe Dream?

Wednesday 9th September, 1.30-3.30pm followed by a hands on product session.

This seminar will consist of an examination of two different types of remote source lighting - fibre optics and lightpipe - including their applications and limitations. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the uses of these techniques and the applications where they have succeeded and failed. Will future developments, both in the performance and the perception of this type of lighting, make it the preferred solution in the future?

The panel will be include George Matheson of TIR Systems Ltd in Canada, Emma Dawson-Tarr of Absolute Action and Barrie Wilde from the Building Design Partnership.
