Modelbox Design Office: New Services for the New Millennium
Modelbox expands the services it offers to designers and theatre practitioners
| Modelbox, the pioneering theatrical computer aided design bureau, is set to expand its services and increase the accessibility of its resources - making drawings from their comprehensive collection of venue groundplans available in electronic form for the very first time.
Throughout its ten year history, Modelbox's reputation has been built on its database of CAD venue groundplans. The company currently holds detailed drawings of over 250 venues, including theatres in London's West End and the regions of Britain as well as many overseas venues. Full details of the constantly expanding range of venues can be found on Modelbox's Web site at http://www.modelbox.co.uk; venues that are not included can have their plans added simply by contacting Modelbox. Until now, Modelbox's plans have been used in conjunction with the company's 2D/3D design and drafting services - services used by many of the country's leading Producing Companies and Production Managers. Modelbox is now pleased to announce an exciting new initiative that makes Modelbox's plans available in electronic format: the Modelbox Licensed Partner Scheme. Created in response to demands from the increasing numbers of private CAD users for access to theatre groundplans, the Scheme allows drawings to be issued to license-holders in .dwg format from any version of AutoCAD from Release 12 to the newly-launched AutoCAD2000. Other formats are available to cope with other leading CAD packages where required. "Production managers use Modelbox for tour planning, and many come in house to work alongside us. Now they can have the benefits of Modelbox plans but from the comfort of their own laptop!" explains senior design assistant Jason Larcombe. "At the same time they still have the advantage of our strong history in theatre: our office is staffed by designers who understand theatre and, unlike many other CAD bureaux, we understand what production managers and designers need." The company can also offer training and tutorial support for those computer users not yet up to speed with the latest CAD systems. The second new initiative from the company is Modelbox Design Services, established to meet the needs of today's lighting designers by carrying out much of the 'behind the scenes' work of support and logistics management that time-pressed lighting designers often don't have time to handle. So far Modelbox Design Services have been involved with many productions including Swan Lake for ENB and Doctor Dolittle, Jackie and Gross Indecency in the West End. "Our role has ranged from producing show paperwork, drawing lighting plans and sourcing specialist equipment to working as assistants in the theatre" explains David Howe, head of Design Services. "We are not limited to theatre, however, and Modelbox has worked extensively in the exhibition, themed environment and corporate event industries". More information about any of Modelboxs services, including drafting, the Licensed Partner Scheme and Modelbox Design Services, can be obtained from Modelboxs Web site (http://www.modelbox.co.uk), by email to info@modelbox.co.uk or by telephone on 020 7371 0110. |
