The Training Initiative: Education For All Levels Of The Industry
White Light's training scheme covers everything from schools to the country's leading opera houses.
| Following its launch at the ABTT Trade Show in April, White Light's new education programme, The Training Initiative, is already proving to be popular with all levels of the entertainment lighting industry.
In recent weeks The Training Initiative has run courses on setting up, using and maintaining Rainbow colour scrollers for the crew at the English National Opera, carried out Computer Aided Design training (in conjunction with the pioneering CAD company Modelbox) for students from RADA and invited pupils from local schools to White Light's Fulham base on work experience programmes. Through The Training Initiative, White Light also continues to support lighting students, particularly with the White Light Lighting Design Bursary at Rose Bruford College. The company is also becoming involved with 00' Dip, a new show which promises to be the first large showcase exhibition of student design talent in the entertainment industry. Also due to return for an autumn season are the White Light Wednesday Workshops, hands-on sessions covering the latest aspects of entertainment lighting technology which are held at White Light's Fulham base. Previous Workshop seasons have proved popular with drama colleges, but they are open to anyone who wants to learn more about the latest equipment and techniques. The new Workshop season will be supported by a new Training Initiative Resource Pack, which will be launched at the PLASA Show in September. Aimed at students, amateurs, teachers - or, indeed, anyone starting out in theatre production, the pack will contain the brand new White Light lighting stencil set (which includes the latest conventional and automated lanterns at 1:25 and 1:50 scales) along with drawing pens, colour swatch books, fact sheets and, for the computer-literate, information and demonstration software on disk - all housed in a convenient carry-bag. For the latest training information and Wednesday Workshop schedule, contact Mark Beasley or Imogen Hill at White Light on 020 7731 3291 or by email, or check the Web site. |
