Formed in 1994 to handle the increasing demand for automated lighting technology, The Moving Light Company has since provided equipment to a huge range of theatrical productions (including Fosse, Spend Spend Spend, Saturday Night Fever, Blast, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Show, Art, Doctor Dolittle, Lenny, Les Misérables, Oliver!, Miss Saigon, Cinderella, Soul Train, Blood Brothers, Joseph and two Peter Hall Company seasons, amongst others), concerts, trade shows, films and even a performance at Buckingham Palace!
The company's strength is its independence from any one manufacturer: its diverse hire stock of over 750 lanterns includes Martin MAC300s, 500s, 600s and PAL1200s, High End Cyberlights and StudioColors, Clay Paky Goldenscans, City Theatrical AutoYokes, Strand Pirouettes and DHA Digital Light Curtains and Digital Beamlights. This range means that The Moving Light Company has become the first stop for many lighting designers and theatres looking to find a moving light that is exactly right for their show: the company recently supplied much of the automated rig to the refurbished Royal Opera House in London. Even if a product isn't quite perfect, The Moving Light Company can help - developing, for example, their own range of spill rings to solve flare problems with the Martin MAC600 washlights.
Their increasing stock necessitated the company's move to larger premises. However, as well as just providing more storage, the extra space will also be used to create a dedicated area for their WYSIWYG pre-programming service, and for an enlarged demonstration area that will allow visitors to experiment with moving lights over throws more representative of 'real world' theatrical applications.
