Showlight 2001: White Light in Edinburgh
White Light travels to Scotland to be part of Showlight 2001
| White Light was delighted to be part of the recent Showlight 2001 "international colloquium on entertainment lighting", which took place in and around the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh between May 21st and 23rd.
Representatives from the company, including general manager Bryan Raven, Jason Larcombe, Roger Hennigan from The Service Company and Alex Murphy from The Moving Light Company, took part in the exhibition which ran between the lectures on the stage at the Festival Theatre, showing products including the new Source Four Par version of the City Theatrical AutoYoke, several products from the Enliten range of architectural fixtures as well as members of the Robert Juliat range, for which White Light are now the UK distributors. The exhibition also offered the opportunity to catch up with old friends - and make new ones - from around the world, including Rose Bruford student Kristina Hjelm, who White Light sponsored to attend Showlight as part of her prize for winning the 2000 White Light Student Lighting Designer Bursary. The White Light team also enjoyed the wide range of talks which formed the core of Showlight 2001, these covering subjects as diverse as American lighting designer Peggy Eisenhauer discussing her approach to using moving lights in theatre, John Rayment describing his lighting for the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and Mark White introducing the comprehensive refurbishment of London's Royal Opera House, the automated lighting for which was supplied by White Light and The Moving Light Company. The Showlight organisers, led by Chairman John Watt, also ensured that visitors weren't stuck in a theatre for three days; White Light were one of the host companies for the dinners at the end of the first day, and joined many other industry figures on the coach trip that visited Strand Lighting's factory and then the manufacturer of another important theatrical product - scotch whisky - before the Showlight dinner that rounded of the second day. "Showlight 2001 was a great event," comments White Light's Bryan Raven, "with good speakers covering a wide range of subjects, some well planned social events, and with Edinburgh putting on a display of the finest weather! Everyone who attended seems both to have learnt something and to have had fun - and we therefore look forward to the next Showlight in 2005." |
