Anything Goes at White Light
White Light and The Moving Light Company to supply the lighting rig to the West End transfer of the smash-hit musical Anything Goes

White LightMLCoAnything Goes White Light and The Moving Light Company, leading suppliers of conventional and automated lighting to the entertainment industry, have been selected to supply the lighting rig to Anything Goes. This acclaimed revival of the classic Cole Porter musical received rave reviews and won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production when it opened at the National Theatre last year. The production is now transferring to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where it will open this September.

The lighting for Anything Goes is designed by David Hersey. White Light has had a long involvement with David’s designs, particularly for shows at Drury Lane: My Fair Lady, currently running in the theatre, uses a rig from White Light. Before that, White Light supplied the lighting rig for the record-breaking, decade-long run of Miss Saigon - a show that is still using a White Light rig on its current UK tour.

For Anything Goes, White Light will be supplying around 240 ETC Source Four profiles in all beam angles including zooms, three 5kW fresnels, two 2.5kW HMI fresnels, 90 PAR64s, 36 Strand Coda-4 groundrows as well as around 155 Rainbow scrollers for Source Fours, PARs and HMI fresnels. Effects will include six Strand Cadenza EP effects projectors with White Light VSFX Storm Cloud effects, eight tubular ripples and a selection of animation effects from DHA Lighting. White Light will also be supplying three 2.5kW HMI followspots from Robert Juliat. Control will be from Strand 500-series consoles, as used at the National Theatre and already installed in Drury Lane for My Fair Lady. White Light will also be supplying radio-ethernet control using Artistic Licence controllers for the dimmers built in to the moving ship set.

Alongside the conventional lighting, The Moving Light Company will be supplying eleven Vari-Lite VL2000 Spotlights, two VL1000AS spotlights plus five Pitching DHA Digital Light Curtains and twenty standard Digital Light Curtains, these a mixture of six- and eight-lamp units to enable them to follow the curve of the show’s wrap-around cyclorama.

With the show a transfer rather than a new production, White Light will be working closely with the show’s production team, including production manager Richard Bullimore and production electrician Fraser Hall, to ensure that everything is ready for installation within the show’s tight schedule.

Anything Goes is directed by Trevor Nunn, designed by John Gunter with lighting by David Hersey and sound by Paul Groothuis. The production is choreographed by Stephen Mear - who, those with long memories may recall, choreographed Dancing With Light, the show that launched The Moving Light Company back at the 1995 PLASA Show!
