White Light To Supply Mamma Mia in Holland
White Light and The Moving Light Company to supply the lighting rig to the latest production of the smash-hit ABBA musical

White LightMLCoMamma Mia White Light and The Moving Light Company, leading providers of conventional and automated lighting equipment to the British theatre industry, have been chosen to supply the rig to the new Dutch production of the smash-hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia. Their selection for the show reflects the increasing number of projects that the White Light Group is involved with beyond the UK. This experience, together with the Group’s strong reputation for supplying well-prepared equipment with strong backup at a reasonable price led Mamma Mia’s production managers Crosbie Marlow Associates to select it for this new production.

The Dutch production of the show, which will open at the Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht in November, is the tenth production of Mamma Mia - others are still running in London, New York, Canada, Australia, on tour in the US, in Las Vegas, in Germany and in Japan. For Holland, lighting designer Howard Harrison and his associate, David Holmes, have refined their rig design to make use of some of the latest lighting equipment. White Light will be supplying two hundred ETC Source Four profile spots, 170 Source Four Pars, 46 MR16 groundrows, 102 Wybron scrollers, 34 DHA double gobo rotators and four Robert Juliat Aramis followspots. Other effects include Look Solutions Viper NT smoke machines, MDG Atmosphere haze machines and Le Maitre LSG low smoke machines.

The moving light rig from The Moving Light Company includes twenty DHA Digital Light Curtains, two Vari-Lite VL1000s, forty-four VL2000s, two Martin Mac2000 Performances and eighteen Vari-Lite VL5s, these units added to MLC’s hire stock for this production. The moving light rig will be controlled from a Vari-Lite Virtuoso DX console, with the conventional lighting run from a GrandMA - the two consoles linked via MIDI for show running.

Mamma Mia, which tells the story of a girl’s search for her father through 22 of Swedish supergroup ABBA’s most famous songs, has been selling out around the world since 1999. White Light has been involved with the show since that first production, for which it supplied the dimmers for the show‘s spectacular neon floor.
