Leading entertainment lighting supplier White Light was the partner of choice for lighting designer Tim Routledge when he came to light Hillsong Church's Extravagant Worship, a three day event held at the Hammersmith Apollo in London that required lighting for everything from large musical numbers and time coded sequences to simple conference states.

Routledge selected White Light to supply the show because, as he says, "White Light's commitment to lighting designers is excellent. From providing me with a superb Production Electrician to a quiet, spacious WYSIWYG facility and grandMA for pre-programming the time-coded sequences, the whole experience was of working to a very high professional standard."

With tight time constraints, Routledge opted to pre-program the show's opening sequences in advance; as a WYSIWYG user who already had WYG drawings of the show which he had to used to plan the event and preset rendered images to his clients, WYSIWYG was the obvious choice. He made use of White Light's WYSIWYG facility to create a sequence which, once transposed to the theatre, "worked to time code perfectly and brought the three thousand strong audience to their feet. Hillsong had long wanted to work with time-coded lighting to music and this first attempt could not have gone any better."

The rig, supplied by White Light, included a large selection of moving lights from Martin, PixelLine LED units from Thomas rigged vertically at random heights around the stage, two Dominator exterior searchlights placed at the rear of the stage, and an assortment of conventional lights; the lighting was complemented by video projections created by Hillsong's new state-of-the-art video production system. The lighting for the entire production ran from a grandMA Light console.

White Light also supplied production services to the show, with a White Light team led by production electrician Veronique Lachance and production technician Simon Jones responsible for the practical side of implementing Routledge's design. White Light's work was co-ordinated by Steve Bartlett of White Light's Corporate Lighting team.

Extravagant Worship, about which further information can be found at www.hillssong.co.uk/conferences/extravagant, is just one of the many shows with which White Light is involved through the fields of theatre, parties, installations, conferences and corporate events; other recent project for which White Light has supplied a complete lighting service include lighting six landmark buildings around the UK in six days for Crown Paints, lighting son-et-lumieres at King's College, Guildford Cathedral and elsewhere, and lighting many of London's largest parties over the Christmas period. Full details of the comprehensive range of lighting services White Light offers can be found elsewhere on this website.
